About this vintage design furniture

Pair of armchairs designed by Guglielmo Ulrich, reupholstered in brown shaved velvet with a fuchsia pink finish around the back, as shown in the photo, the armrests and feet are in curved beech, also restored and polished. WILLIAM ULRICH. Born in Milan in 1904 to Alberto and Luisa Battaglia. Coming from a noble family of Danish origin, he attended the Brera Academy and, after two years, in 1928 he graduated in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic. In 1930 he founded, with Scaglia and Wild, the Arca company (furniture for the home) of which he will be the designer and which will present objects made with great care and skill using precious and exotic materials (until 1936). Until 1945 he designed furniture for Scaglia, made by Jannace and Kovacs. In the 1950s he took part in various Triennale exhibitions, furnished shops and offices in various Italian cities and designed buildings. He participates in various competitions, including those relating to naval furnishings. The 1960s represented progress for Ulrich with a cautious interest in the industrial world. In 1961 he received the first prize in the competition of the Trieste Fair for a chair produced by Saffa. The passage of scale from the object to the architecture does not involve particular methodological precautions. In both cases Ulrich does not admit distinctions of attitudes, but the confirmation of a practice always aimed at the maximum possible result. He dies in 1977. Source. Reference : 282279
