About this vintage design furniture

Sciolari wall lights sconces, a pair, with gold plated gilt brass frames in the Neoclassical style, 1960s ca, Italian. These wall lights have been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. They are newly rewired and earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to install. They have 4 new E14 lamp holders. Four new grey silk gold lined lampshades and lightbulbs are included in this price. These lights can be use with a dimmer. It is possible to use these sconces in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity. This elegant pair of vintage wall lights by Gaetano Sciolari is a reinterpretation of the traditional Neoclassical sconce. Key design features such as the swag and scroll form are kept simple for a Modern clean look. They have Italian craftsmanship and attention to detail, emphasized with the use of polished and satin gilt finishes. The metal frames are quality cast and have a good weight. This design would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Traditional, Hollywood Regency, Post Modern, or Contemporary. These vintage lights have both the original makers label SCIOLARI still attached behind each round base. Each wall bracket is also stamped SCIOLARI MADE IN ITALY, as photographed. The frames are in gilt brass, there is a clever use of polished and satin finishes in the design. At the centre of each frame there is a cartouche body in satin finish with an embossed decorative effect trim in polished finish. From this base spreads out 2 scrolling arms in polished finish. These rise slightly upwards, each holding a bobeche in a satin finish with a polished beaded trim. On the bobeche there is the new lamp holder and removable cover with a satin reeded finish and two horizontal bands. Under the bobeche there is a long decorative finial with a twisted rope design also in a satin finish. Between the arms runs a `string of beads`, which can be unscrewed for transport. The contrast between the satin and polished finishes creates different reflections and depth. To fit the frames to the wall there are two holes on each round frame from which two brass decorative pegs screw to a metal plate on the back. This metal plate has holes through which it is screwed to the wall. Each light is finished with a new clip-on grey silk lampshade. These have grey fabric trim and metallic gold lining. Each wall light carries 2 standard small screw light bulbs (E14) up to 40 Watts. At present fitted and photographed with Candle Clear shaped light bulbs of 25 Watts. These are included in the price. It is possible to use other E14 Candle bulbs. These sconces could be installed also without lampshades for a more traditional look. This pair of sconces is in very good vintage condition. The metal frames are sound with no damages or missing parts. All the original brackets and decorative brass pegs are present. The finishes are in very good condition, with a light patina, minor tiny marks and rubbing to the lacquer/gilt in line with age and wear. The lampshades are new and in very good condition.
