Vintage ceramic trays by "F. Sanchez" for Perignem, Belgium 1960

Splendid pair of ceramic trays of author, signed "F. Sanchez." on the bottom, original from the 60s. These two pieces complement each other in color and shape, each one different. The artist's use of color is amazing, as he perfectly combines intense navy blue and strong orange almost red. The ornamentation sticks to simple, geometric elements, directly reminiscent of tribal patterns, including the incisions on the surface. In addition, the glossy finish of the ceramic adds a high degree of sophistication. These are therefore very aesthetic pieces, which follow ethnic forms, but with a more avant-garde vision. Slight flaws that do not interfere with the overall vision of the set.Perignem: a pottery workshop in BelgiumPERIGNEM was founded in 1947 by the brothers Rogier and Laurent Vandeweghe as an artistic ceramics workshop in the city of Beernem. Both had been students of Joost Maréchal in the workshop of Alphonse Baert in Sint-Lucas (Ghent). Rogier left Perignem in 1955 to set up a new studio in Bruges, AMPHORA, with his wife Myranna Pyck (who had worked in Perignem as a ceramic painter).After Rogier's departure, Laurent had the vision to engage promising young artists and give them the freedom to work and create freely. Perignem quickly became a hotbed of creativity and presented the pieces to the public in an impressive exhibition in 1958. Reference : 265474
