About this vintage design furniture

This set of four modernist chairs was designed by E. Knudsen and made by the Danish furniture manufacturer K. Knudsen & Søn in 1952. This model was exhibited for the first time at the congress in Federica, where it was designed. The frame is made of oak wood in a warm shade of brown. The seat and backrest are made of hand-woven paper cord. Twisted paper cord woven over an open wooden frame has been used to make the seats of Danish chairs since the 1940s, but in the 1950s and 1960s paper cord became most characteristic of chairs from the Danish Mid-Century Modern era. This material is extremely durable as well as natural like the wood around which it is woven. E. Knudsen was a Danish architect and furniture manufacturer in Odense. In the 1930s and 1940s, Knudsen's company was one of the leading and largest furniture manufacturers in Denmark. Kurt Østervig began his career as a furniture designer there. The set is in original vintage condition. They have signs of age and use. There are local differences in shades on the woven parts, gluing on the joints. The seat is at a height of 44 cm.
