Vintage dining set by Scarpa Tobia and Afra for Maxalto, Italy 1975

SCARPA TOBIA AND AFRA for Maxalto. Italy 1975. Produced by Maxalto Dining set composed of four "Africa" chairs and a table from the "Artona" series designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto in 1975. Excellent vintage condition. Set of 4 vintage Africa chairs by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto, mod. Africa solid curved walnut frame, ebony inserts, brown leather seat Originally hand-finished and assembled one by one, "Africa" features a solid wood support structure with a rectangular cross-section. Seat in curved plywood covered in brown leather, back in curved wood with great sculptural impact. Perfect combination of curved lines, which is achieved by making the two rooms of the chair from a single piece of wood, divided and finished in two mirrored components Dimensions: h 79, 55 x 49 cm. Vintage Artona table by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto, 1975 Round table from the "Artona" series for Maxalto. Square-section central support in solid wood and top in briarwood with brass skirting. Dimensions: h 70, diameter 130 cm. The perfect combination of curved lines is achieved by making this piece from a single piece of wood, divided and finished in two mirrored components. The table has a round top based on the well-known construction technique of heather blocks framed by walnut and ebony. The base is square, giving the round top a solid yet picturesque base. Sophisticated details and a variety of colours accompany the black lines of the piece. The Artona line by the Scarpa duo was the first line produced by Maxalto, the specialised division of B&B Italia.
