About this vintage design furniture
A 1st edition 1969 Artemide Mezzachimera lamp by Vico Magistretti with original Artemide plug. This Mezzachimera table lamp is a nice example of these characteristics. A sheet of folded white acrylic is sculpted to make illuminated channels and gives a warm soft light when it lights up. Manufacturer's mark can be observed on the lamp base. The lamp is in well kept condition.
Vico Magistretti (1920-2006) was born in Italy into a family of architects. Magistretti worked at his father’s firm and later expanded into industrial and furniture design, particularly seating and lighting. He has worked with Artemide, Cassina, De Padova and Kartell International, among others. Magistretti was awarded the ”Compasso d’Oro” for the Artemide Eclisse lamp in 1967, and for the Cassina Maralunga sofa and the Oluce Atollo lamp the following year. Magistretti’s work can be found in renowned museums across the globe, including a staggering 14 designs in the permanent collection at the MoMA.
