Pair of vintage basket rattan chairs by Gian Franco Legler

This pair of Legler Basket wicker chairs is in excellent condition. The wickerwork is very well preserved and strong. The metal frame shows hardly any signs of wear. The Swiss-Italian designer Gian Franco Legler designed the Basket Chair for the Italian restaurant The Basket in 1951. Local basket weavers and locksmiths were hired by Legler to make the chairs. The Basket Chair quickly became a success, not only in Italy and Switzerland, but also in Germany and the USA. In 1953, Gian Franco Legler received the Good Design Award from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York for these chairs. Reference : 255490
