A set of four handmade, original Japanese happiness dolls - Kokeshi. The dolls are signed and come from the 1960s. Traditional Japanese Kokeshi dolls come from the Tohoku region in northern Japan. Handmade wooden Kokeshi symbolize youth and girlish beauty; they are customarily given as a gift as amulets of love and friendship, also on the occasion of birth; it is believed that they are favored by the gods. The classic form of the Kokeshi doll consists of a simple, cylindrical body devoid of limbs and a head with delicate, painted lines emphasizing the features of the doll's face. Kokeshi are a unique gift idea and an unusual object of desire for collectors around the world. The set consists of four figurines of different sizes.
