About this vintage design furniture

Mid Century Dressing Table A stunning walnut dressing table or desk. Very interesting design, the classic piece sits on square tapered splayed legs with four drawers. Manufactured by Vesper. Part of the Utility CC41 furniture scheme. Introduced by the British government and headed by Sir Gordon Russell the scheme was designed to cope with shortages of raw materials and rationing of consumption during World War II. The aim was to ensure the production of strong, well-designed furniture making the most efficient use of limited timber. The designs were largely in the tradition of the Arts and Crafts movement, and were simplistic with lack of ornamentation, entirely contrary to the popular taste of the immediate pre-war period. The Utility Furniture Scheme continued into post-war austerity and lasted until 1952, ten years after its introduction in 1942. This dressing table dates to circa 1950. Dimensions: 79H x 108W x 51D Condition: Excellent - This vintage item has no defects - normal usage marks are apparent.
