Vintage pine veneer pendant lamp T355 "Berse" by Hans-Agne Jakobsson for Ellysett Ab, Sweden 1960

The T355, also known as "Berse," is one of the medium-sized pine veneer pendant lights created by Swedish master designer Hans-Agne Jakobsson. It is created from rings of pine veneer carefully folded around a pine wood frame. It gives a stunning warm glow that affects the entire room as well as a pleasant downward light on a dining table.Good vintage condition but with two cracks on one side that are only visible when the light is on, see photos.Standard E27 bulb socket. Light is rewired for safety.Hans-Agne Jakobsson was undeniably one of the most versatile and productive lighting designers and manufacturers in the world in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. He was also one of the best and most important designers of the Scandinavian era of soft, non-glare golden light. His early designs follow in the footsteps of Scandinavian giants such as Poul Henningsen, Paavo Tynell, and Alvar Aalto, and he should be considered as important as other world-renowned Nordic lighting designers Greta Magnusson-Grossman, Lisa Johansson-Pape, Verner Panton, and Jo Hammerborg.The story behind the invention of this series of lamps: "Hans Agne Jacobsen invented the laminated pine lights by chance while decorating for Christmas in the Markaryd store. He wanted to soften a couple of dazzling bulbs, had some laminated pine on hand and quickly assembled some temporary fixtures. A customer came in and wanted to buy the arrangement and Hans -Agne Jakobsson ended up with an unprecedented item. The laminated pine fixtures became an export success and were sold in virtually every corner of the world."
