About this vintage design furniture

Model 3100 is a chair designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1951 and is also known as the Ant Chair because of its waisted shape. Arne Jacobsen (1902-1972) was a Danish architect and furniture designer. . Jacobsen joined the architectural firm of Paul Holsoe in 1927 after studying architecture in Copenhagen. In 1930 he founded his own agency. Jacobsen was professor of architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Art. His best-known building designs are St. Catherine’s College in Oxford and the SAS Hotel in Copenhagen. He also designed taps, cutlery and furniture, of which the dining room chairs de Mier, the swan and the armchair the egg are well-known examples. These chairs became world famous and were characterized by an elegant simple style. Jacobsen’s design style can be described as functionalistic, because with him form is always determined by function. Arne Jacobsen is influenced by Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier and Bauhaus. Jacobsen in turn has influenced many other designers. A concrete example of the synergy between interior design and its architecture can be found in the design of the headquarters of the Nationalbank in Copenhagen, 1971. For this project, Jacobsen collaborated with the manufacturer Vola to design a collection of modular sanitary fittings and accessories. . These products are still available in their original form today. The technique is always adapted to contemporary standards, but without interfering with the formal value of the collection. The Ant chair was originally designed as a three-pot chair. This makes the chair a bit more pronounced, but later 4 Poots models were added. This set of tripod chairs is therefore in good condition, partly because they come from the first design years.
