Aksel Bender Madsen is a talented Danish designer. His style is representative of the Scandinavian design: clear, sober and timeless lines.
Madsen designed several pieces of furniture during his career, in particular with Ejner Larsen. Together, they created chairs, armchairs, dining tables, desks… His most famous creation is the amazing Metropolitan chair (1949-1952). Biography Aksel Bender Madsen was born in 1916 in Denmark, in a family of farmers. After an apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker, he studied furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1940. During his studies, he met his friend and future collaborator: Ejner Larsen. Together, they presented many projects during several Cabinetmakers Guild's exhibition in Copenhagen. Madsen also worked with two talented Scandinavian designers: Kaare Klint and Arne Jacobsen. Bender Madsen has left an indelible mark on the history of Scandinavian design.
