About this vintage design furniture

White ceramic ashtray with a blue fish and flower,signed Cloutier,France,circa 1970. Jean (1930) and Robert Cloutier (1930-2008) were trained at the Meaux ceramics school, then joined several workshops, including that of Jouve and Chambost, and set up their own workshop in 1965, moving to the Languedoc region in 1977.

About the designer

Robert & Jean Cloutier

Robert and Jean Cloutier were two Quebec designers who worked together for over 50 years, from 1953 until Jean's death in 2008. They were pioneers of industrial design in Canada, working on a wide variety of projects from consumer electronics to furniture and office equipment.
