Mid century armchair by Charles Eames for Herman Miller
About this vintage design furniture
RAR - rocking armchair prototype Zenith edition for Herman Miller 1954.Design by Charles Eames unique model, identified as a pre-production prototype: Zenith publisher's signature handmade. A Z is engraved directly in the fiberglass + logo in decal, nevertheless altered. Hemp rope edge. It is also distinguished by small shockmounts while most Zeniths are identifiable by large shockmounts. Zenith developed the prototypes and production techniques between 1952 and 1955 before letting Herman Miller take over. Several hypotheses can be envisaged, it is probable that it is one of the first chairs edited by Herman Miller in transition from Zenith's production but in this hypothesis it is surprising to see reappearing a type of production (rope edge) abandoned since 1953.
