Francisque Chaleyssin

After studying interior architecture at the École Boulle in Paris, Chaleyssin began his career in the 1950s as a freelance designer. He quickly gained recognition for his innovative approach to design, integrating both functional and aesthetic aspects into his creations.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Francisque Chaleyssin collaborated with many well-known companies, such as Airborne, a contemporary furniture manufacturer, and Matra, a company specializing in aerospace and vehicles. His designs were often characterized by their elegant simplicity and use of modern materials such as metal and plastic.

Chaleyssin was also a fervent advocate of the idea that design should be accessible to all, and worked on affordable product design projects aimed at the general public. He helped popularize the concept of "democratic design" in France.

Throughout his career, Francisque Chaleyssin received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the prestigious Prix René Gabriel in 1971.

He continued to work as a designer and consultant until his retirement. Francisque Chaleyssin passed away on April 7, 2015, leaving behind an important legacy in the field of industrial design in France. His creations continue to influence and inspire future generations of designers.
