About this vintage design furniture

This iconic set of two Viennese Sonett Model Astoria chairs by Karl Fostel Sen.’s Erben, Austria, was manufactured in midcentury, circa 1950. They were designed by the Austrian Midcentury Architects J.O. Wladar and V. Mödlhammer and are made of whitepainted metal. There is some wear and few chips on lacquer which gives them a very nice patina. These chairs are great to be used indoor and outdoor as Garden Chairs aswell. After the second world war, the tubular steel furniture factory Karl Fostel Sen.’s Erben, founded in 1890, specialized in modern outdoor furniture made of steel and light metal. Based on the tradition of metal furniture, the company developed the series Sonett as a product line for modern garden furniture, in line with the international trend prevalent after the second world war.
