Gunnar ASPLUND

Asplund studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm, graduating in 1909. After graduating, he worked briefly with renowned architects such as Erik Lallerstedt and Isak Gustaf Clason. However, Asplund quickly developed his own distinctive style and became one of the leading proponents of modern architecture in Sweden.

One of Asplund's best-known achievements is the Northern Cemetery (Norra begravningsplatsen) in Stockholm, which is considered a masterpiece of landscape architecture. He also designed several iconic buildings, including the Stockholm City Library (Stadsbiblioteket), which is considered one of the most outstanding examples of 20th-century classical architecture.

Over the course of his career, Asplund developed an eclectic architectural style, ranging from neo-classical to modernist functionalist architecture. He combined traditional elements with modern forms and materials, creating harmonious and aesthetically pleasing buildings.

In addition to his work as an architect, Gunnar Asplund was also a talented designer. He designed furniture and decorative elements for his buildings, creating coherent and elegant interior spaces.
