About this vintage design furniture

Jos De Mey studied decorative arts and interior design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Through his teacher Gaston Eysselinck, he came into contact with the furniture company Van den Berghe-Pauvers. During this period De Mey also designed furniture for Luxus, a company based in Kortrijk. De Mey worked for both companies as a freelance designer during the 1950s. Although it is easy to find his work for Van den Berghe-Pauvers, De Mey's designs for Luxus are harder to find. This set of eight chairs was designed by Luxus. The chairs have a spacious concave seat and a comfortable backrest, nicely detailed with a wooden pattern. This hard to find set has a beautiful patina acquired over the years. Two of the chairs have a small scratch on the seat. We have kept the upholstery as it is all original, the foam is still in good condition. These chairs do not often appear as a larger set, you can find them mostly individually or in a set of four. An exceptional chair for its design, joinery and comfort.
