About this vintage design furniture

Pair of side tables or night tables designed by Aldo Tura and produced in Italy in the 1970s or so. Each table has a wooden frame and a brass covered base. The surface is covered with Aldo Tura's signature parchment in shades of dark brown. Each table has two drawers. Born in 1909, Italian designer and manufacturer Aldo Tura established his furniture production company in Lombardy in 1939. Working between the idioms of Art Deco and Modernism, Tura created singular high-end furniture and accessories characterized by rich materials, sculptural forms, and high-end craft techniques. Tura's work has become a collector's item, especially examples of exotic finishes - such as eggshell, goatskin and parchment - in intense palettes of red, green and yellow. Tura was one of Italy's most unique mid-century design talents. In the post-war years, when many furniture makers were adapting their production methods to mass production, Tura remained true to slow, traditional craftsmanship. He favored complex forms and labor-intensive processes that could never be replicated in a large-scale production system.
