About this vintage design furniture
This is an amazing Smalandshyttan art glass vase, designed by Josef Schott, in Sweden, circa 1960s. A fantastic space age design by one of the smaller, lesser known glass factories in the province of Smaland, the glassmaking center of Sweden. In operation from 1947 to 1976, Schott, born in the Czech Republic, was their chief designer. This vase is typical of his 1960s production, with its blown and molded optical lens design. The raised pattern of rings and dots on all four sides captures and refracts light beautifully. It looks like a modernist building or spaceship and is reminiscent of the mid-century era. A stunning piece of Scandinavian art glass, which is a sculptural piece in its own right, and would look fantastic with a brightly coloured flower stem or two. A perfect addition to any Swedish Scandinavian art glass collection, and would complement any retro, vintage, mid-century, 60's, space age, modernist, minimal or contemporary interior. In excellent condition with no marks, chips or scratches. Measures 289 cm.
