About this vintage design furniture

This is a fully restored original version of this classic 1960's space age astronaut helmet style swivel chair. As you can imagine, after more than 60 years the original finish had become dull and somewhat discoloured, so it has been fully repainted, and the upholstery has been replaced with a very similar elephant cord velvet fabric in orange. The mechanism that allows the two visors to be lifted more easily by means of powerful coil springs has been meticulously refurbished, as the originals had suffered the ravages of time and rust. For those who have never seen one, the seat can be placed in an upright position for two people to sit comfortably in a couch-like position, or unfolded to become a super comfortable double chaise lounge. The sunshades can be adjusted to form an eye shade or left fully open, and closed only when the sun disappears for the night. There are two swivel tables, one with a removable aluminum ashtray, the other with a holder for your cool glass of wine. Although designed as a garden chair, it can of course be used indoors, but be sure to measure the size of the access, as taking it apart and rebuilding it once inside is not for the faint of heart.
