About this vintage design furniture

An eye-catching ceramic sculpture, designed by Jan Snoeck, originally intended for the De Kaap primary school in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, around 1980. This is one of the sculptures made for the "De Kaap" primary school in the Netherlands. They were designed as seated people (without heads), each with their own clothes, figure and height. The use of coloured frosted ceramics makes these pieces fun and decorative, real eye-catchers for the outdoor space. The above measurements are for the figure, they do not include the concrete slab it is attached to. The piece is in good condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, and retains a nice patina. About the artist: Jan Cornelis Snoeck (March 5, 1927 - March 31, 2018) was a Dutch sculptor and ceramicist, famous for his colorful ceramic sculptures and other works. Snoeck studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague, where he graduated in 1949. In 1953 he worked for a year in the studio of the famous artist Ossip Zadkine in Paris. Initially, Jan Snoeck worked with the materials stone, wood and bronze. Later he worked mainly with ceramics. He used cheerful, primary colours and usually had people as his subject. One of his sculptures, 'The Beds', was made for the Westeinde Hospital in The Hague (see picture). Snoeck's works are in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem and the Princessehof Ceramics Museum in Leeuwarden. On 2 June 2007, Snoeck was awarded the Aart van den IJssel Prize by the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. This prize is awarded every three years to a professional artist in recognition of his or her lifetime achievement. In 2007, the Beelden aan Zee Museum in Scheveningen organised a retrospective of Jan Snoeck's work on the occasion of his eightieth birthday. He was made a Knight of the Dutch Order of the Lion. This decoration was awarded to him at the opening of this exhibition, entitled "De goddelijke aardwormen van Jan Snoeck" (The divine earthworms of Jan Snoeck). "Working with clay is easy, but clay has its secrets (...) Simplicity comes with an enormous amount of responsibility (...) How to reach the "hidden meaning of things For that, you have to start over every day."
