About this vintage design furniture
Beautiful armchair by Maurice Burke for Arkana Scotland 1960s in a rare all-orange colour. Maurice Burke is best known for his work on fibreglass chairs and dining tables for Arkana. However, in the 1960s, Safari designs were in vogue. Many designers made their interpretation of a Safari chair, including Hans Wegner, Borge Mogensen, Kaare Klint, Wilhelm Kienzle, Arne Norell and Franco Legler. Maurice Burke did it his way and the chair was very popular at the time. This specific Safari chair is a rare edition in orange. The chair consists of an orange painted teak frame and a continuous orange leather cushion for the seat and backrest that is suspended from the horizontal side bars. The armrests are also suspended between the frame. The chair is very compact and light yet solidly constructed. All the original markings are on the underside of the chair, engraved on the leather cushion. The leather is in very good condition with only limited wear. The orange color has remained very well intact. The orange frame has some patina in the orange paint but the wood is in very good condition.
