Harris LEBUS

After completing his apprenticeship in the family business, Lebus founded his own furniture manufacturing company in 1891, aged just 16. He began by producing Victorian-style furniture, but quickly adapted his creations to meet the design evolutions of the time.

By the early 1900s, Harris Lebus had become a major player in the UK furniture industry. His company was known for its innovative approach and its ability to combine both aesthetics and functionality in its designs. He drew inspiration from emerging artistic movements such as Art Nouveau and Art Deco to create elegant, modern furniture.

During the First World War, Lebus' company was requisitioned to manufacture military crates and supplies, but returned to furniture production after the conflict ended. Lebus continued to innovate and develop new manufacturing techniques, notably using materials such as steel and glass in his designs.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Harris Lebus expanded his business to become one of the largest furniture manufacturers in Britain. He opened modern factories and retail stores throughout the country, offering high-quality furniture at affordable prices.

Lebus retired in the 1940s, leaving the family business in the hands of his sons. Although the company struggled in later decades due to economic changes and evolving consumer tastes, Harris Lebus' legacy as a visionary and innovative designer lives on.

Today, Lebus furniture is sought after by collectors and vintage design enthusiasts. The company continues to produce quality furniture, perpetuating the legacy of its founder, Harris Lebus.
