Hillestak Dining Chairs Set of four, British ‘Hillestak’ bentwood chairs, mid-century, circa 50s, designed by Robin Day and manufactured by Hille. The chairs are designed to stack. Robin Day was an iconic British industrial designer, best known for his injection-moulded polypropylene stacking chairs and his later collaboration with Habitat. He rose to prominence in 1951 when he designed seating for the Festival of Britain. The Hille furniture company originated in east London in 1906. In 1949 Robin Day began working for Hille, and he revolutionised low-cost furniture. The Hillestak chair was his first commission and an instant success. Robin Day died in 2010 leaving behind iconic furniture that becomes more valuable over time. Dimensions (cm): 74 H x 42 D x 50 W (44 seat H) Condition: Vintage chairs with character and natural patina seen.
