About this vintage design furniture
These leather armchairs, Coronado model, were designed in 1966 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for BetB Italia: With incomparable comfort, combining tradition and innovation they are one of the iconic creations of the duo Afra Bianchin and Tobia Scarpa, known and recognized worldwide under the duo Afra and Tobia Scarpa. Both born in the 1930s, graduates of the Venice School of Architecture, the couple began their lives as glass designers in the great Murano house. Numerous collaborations followed: for example with the famous Gavina company in 1960, Cassina in 1968, Flos in 1973 and even the Benetton brand of ready-to-wear clothing from 1964 to the 90s. Their works are exhibited in museums around the world: the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Louvre in Paris, in London, in Denmark... Whether in glass, textiles, architecture or design, the two artists are visionary and avant-garde: they were the first to use halogen for lighting or cold molding for furniture, as in this case these armchairs. From 1950 to today they will incorporate new technologies, while maintaining history, pure, sober, minimalist forms and function.
