Practical mid-century stoneware bowl by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand, Sweden, 1950s. Perfect size for nuts, sugar, sauces, spices, etc. or just for decoration. Nice rustic brown color. Measures: H: 13.5 cmW x 11 cmH x 6 cmD.Elegant matte finish in bronze enamel. Signed with GN Sverige. R for Rörstrand. Great patina and good vintage condition.Gunnar Nylund is a Swedish ceramist born in Paris. Nylund was first active in Copenhagen and as director of Rörstrand, Sweden. Gunnar Nylund introduced the "R" label in 1931. Nylund became famous for his matte stoneware stained in the mass and for his sculptures of animals in chamotte stoneware. He was known for his glazes such as "Ox Blood" and varieties of harp glass glazes.

About the designer
Gunnar NYLUND
Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) was a Swedish designer known for his contributions to the Scandinavian ceramics industry. Born in Paris, Nylund spent his childhood in France and studied sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1925, he returned to Sweden and began working in the ceramics industry in Upsala-Ekeby.
