About this vintage design furniture

Wonderful example of a Globe Wernicke "Elastic" graduated waterfall front bookcase made up of four-sections, including a rare base section that will take a whopping 42cm book Made of quarter sawn dark oak, the bookcase has four up and over single pane glazed doors, with a moulded top and a plinth base. Each section has metal straps to the side; the glazed doors open with a brass knob and slide into the bookcase by means of a concealed metal scissor mechanism. Beneath the moulded top are some fabulous illustrations and stamps, which date this particular piece to the early 1900s (see images). Globe-Wernicke was an American furniture company based in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States, and had factories in Canada, United Kingdom, France and Germany. The company was founded in 1893, and specialised in the design and manufacture of military equipment. The company patented these modular sections as "elastic bookcases", which became known as stacking barrister bookcases, due to their popularity with law firms. External section height: Section 1: 29cm, section 2: 33cm, section 3: 42cm, section 4: 68cm Internal measurements: Section 1: 23cm, section 2: 25cm, section 3: 33cm, section 4: 42cm
