About this vintage design furniture
E W Godwin Side Table A circa 1880, Victorian mahogany square-shaped side table or coffee table designed within the Aesthetics Movement after E.W Godwin. The design was popular in the 19th century, and therefore similar styles were produced by various well known British manufacturers. Edward William Godwin, born in 1833 in Bristol, was a progressive English architect-designer. Godwin began his career working in the strongly polychromatic ‘Ruskinian Gothic’ style of mid-Victorian Britain, inspired by The Stones of Venice. Godwin provided designs in the ‘Anglo-Japanese taste’ of the Aesthetic Movement and Whistler’s circle in the 1870s. Godwin’s influence can be seen in the Arts and Crafts Movement. Dimensions (cm): 66 H x 41 W x 41 D Condition: Very good - With some minor marks consistent with age and use.
