Vintage steel desk by Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm for Kill International, 1960

An exceptional mid-century executive desk, custom made in Wenge, stainless steel and chrome, with a matching black leather chair, designed by Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm for Kill International.Although they only worked together for 7 years, Fabricius and Kastholm produced a stunning set of chairs, sofas, tables and desks for Kill International. When it comes to their desks, you'll notice that all of their desks are based on a stainless steel main frame, often with chrome legs and always connected with black hex head machine screws. The frame is then configured with additional wooden cabinets and usually finished with a thick glass top or wooden tops. So there are many variations on this theme, but I have never seen another desk like this one before. It has all the main elements, as described above, but also a black leather panel on top and a floating shelf in the back. This makes it really unique and it was probably custom made for a particular client.The desk comes with a matching chair. The chair is made to the exact dimensions of the desk, so it can be slid completely underneath it to save space and fits exactly between the cabinets (the height of the arms also being exactly the same as the cabinets). Less noticeable, but just as important, is that because of this exact fit, the key barrels have been recessed into the cabinets to make room for the chair. You may not find this very significant, but if you look at almost any desk they made that had lockable drawers, the key barrels always protrude about an inch from the cabinet so this piece was specifically designed for that purpose. The set is in excellent vintage condition, with just a few marks on the glass, frame, and leather, as one would expect. None of them stand out at all, but if you look closely at the left leg of the desk, you'll see a few marks on the chrome that look like slight discoloration.
