This modernist piece was originally designed as a table to hold a radio with an adjustable shelf for newspapers or books. The table was produced in the 1930s by the famous UP Brno and designed by Jindrich Halabala. The table has a very minimalist design but its true beauty lies in the subtle perfection of its proportions throughout the room. There is beauty in the balanced composition of the vertical and horizontal parts. This table clearly demonstrates Halabala's ability to produce very modern, practical and attractive furniture that could be mass-produced. This piece has not only been a commercial success, it has also been accepted by intellectuals and a wider public. A table designed specifically for storing a radio may seem a strange piece of furniture to our generation, but it was a very popular item in the 1930s and a must for any modern household. There were many variations of this table, but this one is without a doubt one of the best ever produced. The wooden parts of the piece have been refurbished, finished by hand with Shellac and Nitro varnishes and are in perfect original condition. The table top in formica shows a slight wear.
