About this vintage design furniture
This modernist piece was originally designed as a table to hold a radio with an adjustable shelf for newspapers or books. The table was produced in the 1930s by the famous UP Brno and designed by Jindrich Halabala. The table has a very minimalist design, but its true beauty lies in the subtle perfection of its proportions in the overall room. There is beauty in the balanced composition of vertical and horizontal parts. This table clearly highlights Halabala's ability to produce very modern, practical and attractive furniture that could be mass produced. This piece was not only commercially successful, it was also accepted by intellectuals and a wider public. A table designed specifically for storing a radio may seem like an odd piece of furniture to our generation, but it was a very popular item in the 1930s and a must-have for any modern household. There were many variations of this table, but this one is definitely one of the best ever produced. The wooden parts of the piece have been refurbished, hand finished with Shellac and Nitro varnishes and are in perfect original condition. The formica table top shows some light wear.
