About this vintage design furniture

Spectacular, signed, framed, mid-century serigraph from 1972, by renowned Spanish designer, sculptor and painter, José María de Labra (1925 - 1994.) With a background in architecture, de Labra was one of the first generations of artists who worked on abstraction and constructivism in Spain during the 50’s and as the years went by, his work underwent notable changes and evolutions with impeccable execution. This particular serigraph, is representative of his work as he transitioned from a place of spirituality and religious themes, with a play on curves, intense lights and shadows, evolving into geometrical expression, where he began to incorporate objects of spatial geometry. This serigraph itself, is in excellent, original condition, as it has been well-cared for. It is edition "145150" which is written in pencil at the lower, left-hand edge of the circle. On the lower, right-hand edge of the image, his signature, "LABRA" and the date, "72", both of which were also signed in pencil. The image looks as though it could have been made with a giant Spirograph, with the subtle, dark-blue geometric forms and lines set against a cream-colored background, juxtaposed by a darker, near black-colored square, and a vibrant, orange circle at the center. The dark color in the background, in contrast against the other colors, makes the focus of the piece, really "pop." What makes this piece of art that much more special, is that it was used as the official poster for the 4th International Festival of Painting in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France, in 1972. The serigraph was framed behind glass, which has protected the vibrant colors and background. There are no chips or cracks on the glass. The back of the frame, has its original paper and hook wire, which are also in good condition. It hangs perfectly against a wall. The chocolate-brown colored frame has some light signs and marks of usage commensurate with time, but no cracks or anything that compromises the integrity of the piece. There is a mark on the upper, right-hand side of the frame, that is about 2cm in height and less than 2 cm wide. We have photographed it next to a 1 centime coin for perspective (see photo.) There is another minor, less noticeable mark, on the upper, left- hand side of the frame. (see photo.) A truly wonderful piece of modern art created by one of the "renovators of geometric abstraction", this special piece will compliment any given mid- century modern or other space and delight collectors of this epoch, whether placed in the living room, bedroom, dining room, an entry hallway, et al. DIMENSIONS: Height: 51 cm Width: 51 cm Depth of frame: 1.5 cm
