About this vintage design furniture

The Equator pendant was designed in 1968 by Jo Hammerborg for Fog & Mørup - and reintroduced in bright new colours with the Rainbow line in 1969. A large space-age pendant, consisting of two inner rings surrounded by a larger outer ring and a cylinder-shaped top, all with a coloured outer coating. The rings have a white inner lining, except for the lower ring which, like most Hammerborg lamps, has a dark grey interior to act as a diffuser to counteract the reflection of direct light. When switched on, light is emitted through the narrow space between the rings, creating a soft light, while giving a direct flow of light through the open background. The outer ring becomes dark, while the two inner rings and the top of the cylinder become lighter, as they are illuminated by the reflection of the outer ring. The equator was originally introduced in 1968 in three different colours: light grey, pale blue and orange (almost red), and the following year it was relaunched in new bright colours, with two existing designs and a new design, in the rainbow line. The new colour theme was bright red, sunny yellow, bright blue and white. This lamp is in good condition, with only a few small scratches visible only after careful examination. Some rust stains inside. Standard E27 bulb. Johannes (Jo) Hammerborg grew up just outside Randers in an ordinary middle-class family. He trained as a goldsmith, took part in the resistance and freedom struggle in Denmark in 1940-45 as a saboteur, studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and worked as a goldsmith with Georg Jensen. In 1957 he was employed as chief designer at the lamp manufacturer Fog & Mørup, where he worked until 1980. And now, decades later, his coveted lamps are in great demand and are sold in antique shops.
