Vintage Lamp Post A809 Old production by Alvar Aalto, Valaisinpaja Oy, Finland, 1959

Iconic floor lamp Model A809 designed by Alvar Aalto in 1959, initial production of Valaisinpaja Oy. The lamp has three hand riveted lampshades, each made of delicate lacquered metal strips. Together they present a striking combination of lines and curves and allow an interesting play of direct and indirect light upwards or downwards. The foot is finished in hand-stitched black leather, while the collar is made of polished brass. The inside of the lampshade is marked with the manufacturer's label. The luminaire is in excellent condition, with slight wear to the leather upholstery of the base, the wiring having been checked. The A809 floor lamp was created for the living room of the house near Paris, designed by Alvar Aalto for the French gallery owner and collector Louis Carré in 1959.
