Vintage Kwok Hoi Chan Pair of Sz15 Lounge Chairs for 't Spectrum Netherlands, 1973

A highly collectable pair of lounge chairs designed by Kwok Hoi Chan, manufactured by ‘t Spectrum, The Netherlands 1973. Dutch manufacturer ’t Spectrum acquired the design of this sleek SZ15 lounge chair in 1973. It was only part of the collection from 1973-1974. For this reason the production of the chairs was limited. The exact production numbers are unknown, but the chairs are definitely hard to find nowadays. This sleek and dynamic Kwok Hoi Chan chair features the rounded shapes that have taken form from Chinese calligraphy which have flavored his signature. Unique and compelling, his chairs have become covetable by international collectors. The SZ15 chair has a brushed steel tubular metal frame and a thick black leather seating. The overall condition of this pair is very good with wear consistent with age and use. The sturdy leather upholstery of the chairs is still in good condition and has a beautiful patina. Both chairs have had professional restoration of the stitches on the seating. Architect Kwok Hoi Chan (Hong Kong 1939 - Hong Kong 1990) is an endearing figure in international design. In 1966 he first emigrated to the UK after which he moved to France and began a long and fruitful collaboration with the furniture manufacture Steiner. Most designs he created appeared in the Hall of Design in the 1960s and 1970s. His SZ15 chair was the only production in collaboration with Dutch manufacturer ’t Spectrum.
