About this vintage design furniture

Carpet according to the original drawings of P.M.Jacot Pure woven virgin wool Woolmark Foundation label and artist's signature. Switzerland, 1972 H 225 x W162 cm The Woolmark Foundation at the beginning of the 1970s took up the tradition of the great manufacturers who asked the painters of the 18th century to make the cardboard for their tapestries and carpets. A competition was held to select five artists, painters and sculptors whose winning designs were all guaranteed by the Woolmark label and are at the same time works of art bearing a signature. These are not paintings made of wool: the link between art and technique has been studied at length. The artists worked on their cardboards according to the finished product, and the jury consisted of art critics, decoration journalists and carpet manufacturers, the latter judging what could be asked of wool and the machine. Pierre Martin Jacot the author of this cardboard was born in Switzerland. He sought to elaborate increasingly simple forms but also, as here, to inscribe them in reality. The work of wool, a new material for him, fascinated him.
