About this vintage design furniture

A stunning stained plywood and faux leather Restaurant chair, designed by Otto Korhonen Alvar Aalto for Huonekalu- ja Rakennustyötehdas Korhonen. One of the earliest collaborations between Otto Korhonen and Alvar Aalto, the "pönttötuoli" barrel chair was originally designed for the Tarina Restaurant housed in the Turun Sanomat newspaper house. "Alvar Aalto advised Korhonen to extend the bent back all the way to the floor - it was, after all, the time of prohibition and the clandestine bottle also needed a place". (Source: Huonekalutehdas Korhonen Oy, FinlandMarja Kallio, Korhonen 75. This fabulous chair is in wonderful vintage condition. Very rare collector’s piece.
