About this vintage design furniture

Comfortable mahogany armchairs with brown leather cushions from the King series designed by Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sørensen for Botium in 1981. Set of 6 chairs. The chairs are part of the Kings Furniture series from which the Danish King Frederik IX received chairs as gift when he turned 70 in 1969, which the name King series comes from. The King series is a Classic in Danish design and includes several pieces of furniture designed from 1969 and forward. The chairs have been overlooked and refinished by our cabinetmaker and are in good condition. Johnny Sørensen was born in Helsingør, son of factory workers and appointed as unskilled helper at the local shipbuilders, from where he advanced to the carpenter shops, where he met Jørn Utzon, son of world famous Danish architect Jørn Utzon, the man behind the Sydney Opera House. He ended his appreticeship in 1963 producing a writing table in Rio rosewood. Admitted to the Art School in Copenhagen he met his future partner Rud Thygesen, with whom he opened a business in 1966. Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sørensen sequently evolved as renowned furniture designers, showerede by prestigious awards like the Carpenter Guilds furniture competition’s first prize, the Jubilee prize from the National Bank of Denmark and many others. Their works are shown at the Danish Design Museum ion Copenhagen, The Design Museum in Oslo, Victoria and Albert Museum in London and in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
