About this vintage design furniture

A K Series Oba-Q lamp, or Ghost lamp as its widely known, designed by Shiro Kuramata and manufactured by Yamagiwa. Moulded opalescent methacrylate sheet with separate electrical fitting and safety disk. Three different sizes used to be produced, this one is the small size in variation. Really good condition with some discolouration due to light heat and with all the stickers still on it. Literature, Charlotte & Peter Fiell 1000 Lights volume II, Taschen, page 258-259 for comparable lamps. CREATOR: Unknown PLACE OF ORIGIN: Japan DATE OF MANUFACTURE: c. 1970’s PERIOD: 1970-1979 MATERIALS & TECHNIQUES: Acrylic, Metal CONDITION: Good original condition. About the designer

Shiro KURAMATA

Shiro Kuramata (1934-1991) was a Japanese designer known for his innovative work in furniture and interior architecture. Born in Tokyo, Kuramata studied at the Musashino School of Fine Arts before working as an industrial designer at Teikoku Mokei, an architectural modeling company.
