About this vintage design furniture
The iconic Model 78 dining chair was designed in 1954 by Niels O. Møller for J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik. This model, with its organic shapes and wood pieces that "blend" into each other, is a testament to what great designers and brilliant cabinetmakers could achieve in Danish design and craftsmanship of that period. The chairs have been restored and refinished by our cabinetmaker to ensure that they are in very good condition and show only minimal signs of age and use. Born in Århus in 1920, the work of Danish designer Niels Otto Møller has earned a reputation for consistent excellence in quality and craftsmanship. Møller's dedication to his craft began with his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker, completed in 1939, which was followed by additional studies at the Århus School of Design. In 1944, Møller founded his own furniture production company, JL Møllers Møbelfabrik, in a small workshop in the center of his home town. While overseeing the production of traditional furniture in his factory, Møller continued to design. Chair No. 1 (1946) was the first result. For the rest of his life, the furniture Møller designed would be produced by his own company.Møller's chairs, like sculptures No. 55 and No. 71 (both 1951), strongly represent, through the choice of materials and the softness of the curves, the postwar Scandinavian vision of practical but well-made design.
