About this vintage design furniture

Steel and Enamel Dentist Table Desk Industrial Mid Century This Art Deco simplistic vintage steel and enamel solid dentist’s table is white with black edging and dates back to the mid 20 th century. Made in Great Britain, the shape and size of the table means it can double up as a ‘talking point’ desk in your home or office. Circa the 1930s40s, the table features white porcelain enamel, clean lines and a metal frame. The earliest history of dentistry work dates back to 7000 BCE where human remains found in the Indus Valley in Asia showed evidence of teeth drilling. Major advances in dentistry took place in the 19 th century and the British Dental Association was formed in 1879. In the 1930s and 40s, around the time this table was produced, common dental practice was the voluntary removal of a person’s entire set of teeth. It ensured a nice smile and that you would never suffer from toothache. The practice was common among women with girls often receiving the ‘gift’ for their 18 th birthday or for their weddings. Dimensions (cm): 61 D x 74 H x 92 W Condition: The table is solidly made. Nice wear to on of the corners and the enamel is weathered in places.
