About this vintage design furniture
Carlo Scarpa, sideboard, solid walnut and walnut veneer, mid-century modern, brutalist. Similar to his architectural masterpiece, the Brion Vega cemetery, he uses graphical lines and contrasting depths into his work, like a never-ending narrative. Great detail also shows in the diamond pattern veneer inlay technique. Carlo Scarpa, who was an Italian architect known for his instinctive approach to materials, was often inspired by Venice. Recognized for the artistic and architectural patrimony, Venice surrounds us with its framework of canals and narrow streets. Scarpa’s architecture manages to respect the old and historic while simultaneously introducing new and modern design details. In this respect his work is deeply sensitive to the changes of time, all taking shape in a careful selection and combination of materials.
