About this vintage design furniture
Set of 2 FN21 Cantilever chairs by Mucke Melder for Thonet, produced in the 30s. These art-decobauhaus tube frame armchairs were designed in the 20s and most likely first introduced by Thonet. The 20s and 30s were infamous for their bauhaus style (industrial) design style. These chairs form no exception. Mucke Melder (located in the old Czechoslovakia) produced for many well-known furniture brands such as Knoll, Thonet and Gispen. Another very well known model is the S411K411. This specific type of cantilever model has only been produced for Thonet in (Western)Europe. In Czechoslovakia and other Eastern European countries these chairs were marketed under the brand name of Mucke Melder. Although the exact designer of these chairs is still unknown, the style of these chairs is similar to Marcel Breuer, Mies van der Rohe, Wim Rietveld, Le Corbusier and others. In this case, the chairs have been reupholstered in a bright purple color (Kvadrat Tonus 0635 fabric) thereby combining an old design with new fresh fabric. The cantilever frame has been powder coated while the original wooden armrests are still visible. The chairs are in wonderful condition and reupholstered. With the reupholstering unfortunately 2 small damages accrued in the upholstery process. This is hardly visible and has no influence on the usability at all. As well, the frames have some minor wear.
