About this vintage design furniture

Philip Arctander "Muslingestolen" aka the clam chair, 1944. Lounge chair designed in 1944 by Danish architect Philip Arctander, the "Muslingestolen" or Clam chair was first produced by Nordisk Staal & Mobel Central, Denmark and then later under license by Vik & Blindheim in Norway in the early 1950s. This example is the original Danish production which is slightly different in shape to the Norwegian version. It has thicker arms and legs and a wider seat. It features stained beech club legs and curved arms. The seat has been reupholstered in new ’Mohawi’, tufted sheepskin from Australia. The chair has been restored and reupholstered in-house by our team in London.
