In 1867, he joined forces with his son Josef Kohn and oriented the company towards furniture. The expiry of the patent of the Thonet Brothers on the technique of bentwood allows them to offer soon their own range of products. With branches in Berlin, Paris, London and Hamburg, Kohn became one of the most important furniture manufacturers in Austria-Hungary from 1882 onwards and was one of Thonet's main competitors.
