Roger CAPRON

Passionate about ceramics, he has approached this technique in many different ways. He modernized the traditional curves of Provençal pottery, developed mass production, turned his attention to decorative tiles and then to sculpture. Throughout his life, he perfected his art, taking it to new heights. Biography Roger Capron was born in France in 1922. He studied at the Ecole des Arts Appliqués in Paris until 1943. He developed a passion for ceramics and decided to open his own studio in Vallauris with Robert Picault and then Jean Derval. He is one of the artists who contributed to the return of the golden age of ceramics to Vallauris. In 1952, he opened a factory employing some fifteen workers. He is recognized for his combination of expertise and mass production. He received numerous awards in Milan, Cannes and Brussels. In 1970, he also won the Grand Prix International de la Céramique. The factory closed in 1982 due to the economic crisis. Capron then turned his attention to Raku sculpture, opening a workshop in the heart of Vallauris. His work is exhibited in numerous galleries around the world.
